    Mobile App native controls

    Hi Guys / Barry

If we build a mobile app (for iPad), will we have access to the native iPad input controls and the ability to control the keyboard ie only show numbers for a numeric input etc?

    Thanks

    Simon

    Hi Simon,

Yes. When a mobile app is generated whether it's a native Phonegap app or an app run in the iPad browser, whenever the user taps on a field the keyboard automatically slides up. If the field is a numeric field then only the numeric keys are shown on the keyboard.

Also, any fields that are ComboBoxes, data fields, datetime fields, cause the native iPad control to slide up.

    Thanks Barry

    That is great news.

So, if the iPad behavior is effectively the same for web app and native Phonegap app, we guess the main differnce is the ability to work offline.

This app will be for collecting customer details and photos where an internet connection is probable but not guaranteed.

Presumeably the Phonegap app can have small data tables and photos locally (just a few customer records and photos [or maybe even just 1 record]) that can be uploaded to the server when back in WiFi range?

    Thanks

    Hi Simon,

The main difference between a web app and a phonegap app is the latter can access hardware such as camera.

You can handle offline database for data collection perhaps with a few enhancements to the Lianja Framework on the mobile device. This is scheduled for future development but can be brought forward if required.

Uploading of photos and data can be done from the phonegap app as there is a built in file uploader in the framework. It would need to have a server side proc that applied these changes and stored the data on the server. Again that is scheduled for online facilities and can be brought forward as a sponsored feature if deemed vital.
