    Windows Embedded ?

Today a client asked if Lianja would be able to run on "Windows Embedded" or as they renamed it with Win10 to "Windows IoT" ? If yes I could finally have a nice project with Lianja

I have to admit that I heard about that beast several times, but I never investigated the implications or restrictions. As far as I know, WE is mostly used in production and industrial environments, where disk size is tight and only a limited functionality of Windows is needed.

Anyone here with some experience with WE?

    Hi Woody,

That is an interesting question. My guess, and it's just a guess, it that since QT is supported on Windows 10 IoT devices, Lianja probably is too.

I'd love to hear what Barry has to say on the subject.

    Hi Woody,

Are you referring to a Lianja desktop application?

If you are, will this application be an embedded app with or without a GUI?

if it has a GUI what is the display device attached to the device and does it have a graphics card?

Embedded operating systems can run on everything as basic as a refrigerator or a network router so if you can provide more details I will be able to answer. If you prefer not to discuss here you can email me.

Hi Barry, my new customer builds software for controlling industrial furnaces. Currently there's a classic desktop PC running a VFP app, and that connects to that Industrial PC at the furnace, which is basically an "All-in-One" Touchscreen with motherboard and various interfaces. It shows with some nice graphics the whole settings and sensor data, and requests some reciepes from the desktop PC, and sends statistical data back. That "All-in-One" thingy is equipped with either some Linux or Windows Embedded.

After digging somewhat into it, it seems that WE should be capable of Lianja, if it is configured to load the needed packages.
But not having any practical experience, it sure would help if someone has

HI Woody ... back in the day I had a client who bought touchscreens that came with Windows XP on them. Waste pickup truck drivers used them on their routes using a VFP app (map of the route, is is the right trash container number, is the account paid up, etc). Who knows what's in there.
