Generate a Meta Type from a given Page, Section, Field or Gadget

There doesn't appear to be a way to generate a new Meta Type from, or based on, an existing Page, Section, Field or Gadget. Is this correct?

It seems like it would useful to be able to create a new Meta Type with attributes set to match those of an existing Page, Section, Field or Gadget. I could then remove those attributes I don't want included in the Meta Type rather than having to manually add attributes to the Meta Type.

Maybe this could be an option to the Meta Type selection dialogue? Select an existing Meta Type or create a new Meta Type from the current Page, Section, Field or Gadget. The new Meta type would have all Meta Type applicable attributes set to match those of the Page, Section, Field or Gadget from which the Meta Type was crated. The user would then remove those attributes they don't want included in the Meta Type.

An extension to this would be the ability to update a Meta Type from a Page, Section, Field or Gadget associated with that Meta Type. Updating a Meta Type from an object would only update the settings of attributes shared by both the Meta Type and the associated object.

    Just blue skying.

    Cheers,

    Rob C.

    Hi Rob,

You better write an enhancement request via ticket.
It is more formal and helps LIanja team to keep track.

For now, page and section can be saved and used later as a template.

    Hi Rob,

drilling down a page/section/field is easy enough, as is reading the attributes. All that's really needed is for routines to add attributes to a .metatype table -- it appears to be simple commands (attribute = value) with lots of NUL characters, actually.
