Cascading delete not working

Hi, I have two related sections - company & contact where contact has a COMPANYID & all is working fine. When I delete a company then all it's contacts should be deleted, I have tried setting 'Cascade deletes' on the parent and on the child but it makes no difference because orphaned contacts are always left behind.
