Best field type for storing JSON

I'm new to using JSON and want to use it to store data for diagrams for ERD4Lianja.

What is the best field type to use to store this in the database for this ?

This is an old thread but I thought I'd better update the reply as Lianja v2.0 supports a native JSON data type.
