You would declare the variables in the open trigger for the database.
Could you then later change the value of the variable and requery the view ?

I guess my vision of a view would equate to Lianjas virtual table ?

Views are local, virtual tables are remote as they have a CONNSTR associated with them. That's the subtle difference.

So where I am now using views I should create a virtual table with the same structure to ensure it will all work properly ?

What needs to be understood about views is that they operate on both base tables and virtual tables.

using views should work just fine.

If I want an app to be able to use cloud, web based apps etc then would it be better to use virtual tables in place of where I now use views ?

That would really make no difference as all data access is handled in the Lianja Cloud Server not the client.

The Client UI (presentation layer) is all data bound and it uses ajax to get data as needed.

Following on with this topic: let's say I have an app that is designed to run views. I can run it desktop against Lianja Tables; I can run it on Cloud Server. However, I can't run it against Lianja SQL Server? Or can I?

Views are not updatable in many SQL engines including Lianja. They are a readonly "view" of (possibly) multiply joined tables.

Views are all contained with the database container as are virtual tables. Therefore any "client" that accesses tables, views or virtual tables does so via the database container. Lianja SQL Server handles access to databases therefore you have the same level of access that you have from the desktop client.
