How do I connect to a MS SQL Server database? I understand that Lianja has a build in database, but I wanted to try a quick front end to a MS Sql Server database. Is this possible?

To answer your question. Yes, in the next beta or maybe earlier we will enable this functionality.

Currently we have support for external data sources; mysql, postresql, oracle and odbc but have not exposed the functionallity in the app builder. The engine also supports ADO connections transparently on windows, hence SQL server or any other ado data source. As development progresses we will turn this functionality on.

I would like to point out that these 'transparent gateways' can work on any client i.e windows, Mac and Linux against either a local or remote server that can be on a LAN or connected remotely across the Internet. You can therefore run an app on Mac, windows or Linux and access SQL server on a windows server.

In the next beta there will also be the ability to develop and test locally in your own local directory structure and when you are ready to deploy or update an app you can publish the app into another directory (deploy) structure or into the cloud.
