    Rocco,

Lianja is a next generation development and deployment environment (aPaaS) for developing and deploying Desktop, Cloud and Mobile Apps.

Lianja lets you leverage your existing Visual FoxPro language and database knowledge and expertise and expand on that into next generation user interfaces. It differs from VFP in that it is completely cross platform, database, and UI independent.

Unlike other VFP-like products, Lianja is a complete aPaaS (Apps Platform As A Service) and it is not tied to the Windows platform nor does it require or need any VFP runtime engine (which is becoming extinct in a few years) as it has its own VFP scripting language and database engine implementation built-in.

Lianja provides a modern and exciting development paradigm with VFP, Python, PHP and JavaScript scripting languages embedded into it. It also includes a UI framework based on the core UI classes available in VFP so the learning curve to build compelling modern Apps that are fully supported by a commercial company (Lianja Inc) eases your move to hybrid/desktop, cloud and mobile with a much reduced learning curve and the security that we will be around for a long time. This is the team that brought the innovation of Recital to over 60 unix platforms over a 25 year period and continue to support their customers, many of whom have been customers for over 20 years and run business critical applications in diverse areas such as defence, banking, finance, medical insurance claims, aerospace, POS, and logistics.

There are many videos and other useful resources on the lianja website at www.lianja.com to help you better understand what Lianja is all about and i would urge you to watch them to get a better idea on what Lianja is all about.

Lianja is not about coding. Its about building and deploying Apps that are modern, platform independent and it is fully supported by an enthusiastic development and support team who care about our customers and developers.

    Hi Rocco,

in other words: Lianja isn't made to compile your vfox application as is. It is made to provide you with a next generation toolset which you can use, with your vfox skills (and not much more) to move to that next generation. The language is much the same, with a few differences. Those differences are being bridged, over time. The big thing is getting to use your current business code, and much of the design of your forms, in a way that doesn't make you throw it all away. It has many, many language features you didn't have in Fox; and maybe a few you did have and are using (but very few of those in my exposure to the product).

    hth,

    Hank

    Sounds interesting....
I think Dichiara / Rocco, as am myself, was trying to find out how you create the executable program to be delivered to different platforms? In other words, we import everything from VFP for example into Lianja, then what? How do you run all that code? We're a bit unclear on this.

    Thank you

I would suggest you download it and open the lianjademo app and play about with it then you will get a a better idea. You can then post questions on the forums and the lianja developers and community members will interact with you.

There are a lot of threads on these forums as we have run a lengthy beta program.

If you know VFP then you already know one of the scripting languages available to you in Lianja.

Lianja does not currently build executables, it is built to be cross platform and cross UI. As mentioned on your other thread, the Packager will be available from Release Candidate 5.4 (RC5.4). Please also note that script files are pseudo-compiled in Lianja (prg -> dbo, rsp -> rso, scp (imported scx) -> sco etc.) so the source code for these files can be excluded from your distributed lpk Package.

    Hi K!k3,

I'm interested in why it seems so important to you to build an exe. Of course that's what you've been doing for some time (in my case, 20+ years), but that's not a reason for it now. What is your reason for it now?

    thanks,

    Hank

I think there is some confusion for people making a switch from running an executable to running a browser based app.
I think what K!k3 is really asking is "How do my clients run my application"
