    Bigger font on Lianja screens

    I have a big monitor (Philips BDM4065UC) which I run at 3840 x 2160.

On my monitor I find some of the fonts in Lianja rather small, for example the Project settings (see pic) and the Wizard for making a new app. Interestingly, my VFP9 app automatically has a quite readable font by default at my resolution.

This pic has a VFP Info message on top of Lianja so you can see what I mean:

Also, on the Home screen, the font used in the blocks is quite small.
Short of changing my screen resolution to run Lianja, is there a way to default to a bigger font?
    Regards
    Cyril

    Hi Cyril,

On the desktop shortcut for the App Builder (and the App Center) try specifying --fontsize 20 or whatever until it looks right.

    Hi Barry

    Thanks for the suggestion.
I tried several settings - it seems to affect the mode bar display (badly) but I couldn't detect a significant change elsewhere.

Not a biggie, I'll change my screen resolution if I cannot read something.

FYI: notice that the bottom of the Wizard message is truncated. If I go Next and then back, I see more of the message.

    Hi Cyril,

Windows handles scaled fonts quite poorly. Can I see the display settings? It is common for Windows to set the font display as 150% on hi resolution displays. I should probably look into this.

I've added a new command line switch in 3.4

    --dpiawareness xxx

where xxx can be 0, 1 or 2

We will try this internally first to try and resolve this issue.

    DPI Awareness Level Meaning

[0] DPI Unaware This level has been introduced in Windows-Vista. Windows will pretend to the application that it is running on a standard display of 96 DPI of 1920x1080 and scale the application accordingly. It is intended to accommodate older applications designed for low DPI displays. Some artifacts may result from this type of scaling.

[1] System-DPI Aware This level has been introduced in Windows-Vista. It differs from Per-Monitor DPI Aware only when multiple monitors are connected. Windows will calculate a scaling suitable for all connected monitors.

[2] Per-Monitor DPI Aware This level has been introduced in Windows 8.1. Windows does not perform any scaling at all.

    Hi Barry

    OK thanks.
As you are working on it, you may be interested in seeing how the demo app looks on my screen:

(Actually I think my screen capture pics display more clearly than what I perceive when looking at the app).

    Things of note:
    Truncated words:
    • The left items (e.g. favorites) are cut off at the bottom (USA: the bottom of the U is cut off / no underline; similarly Around the Horn).
    • Menu: Navigate - the bottom of the g.
    • Toolbar: Selected 4 of 91 - the bottom of the S, etc.

Too small (for my eyesight )
    • The map and RHS stuff are all too small
    • The writing at the bottom of the sections
    • The navigation at the bottom of the grids
    • The column titles are way too small.

    HTH.

    Cyril

    Hi Cyril

Yes this is all related to runnng on a very high resolution with no font scaling enabled.

FYI I use a MacBook with a Windows VM and have my fonts scaled 150%.

Angway, we will see how the new --dpiawareness switch helps.

FWIW: I have also seen weird things happen when I had scaling set different for my laptop and a second (larger, of course) monitor. They have to be the same scaling, it turns out, or weird things happen.

    Hi Cyril,

Can you try setting an environment variable:

    QT_AUTO_SCREEN_SCALE_FACTOR=1

and let me know if that had any effect.

Additionally, you can specify the startup window size for the App Builder or App Center using the --geometry command line switch.
