    Question DB Access Performance

    hi,

I have this project deployed on LAN network. Project DB is just a DBF files shared and mapped on network drive so that client PC could also access the files through the lianja_tenancy. But the problem is that the system takes a lot of time to save and access a single data on the files. App center don't even respond sometimes.

Any idea what causes this and how would I improve the performance of my project deployed on LAN?

    Thanks a lot.

Can you provide some information to explain what you mean by "save and access a single data".

What sort of section is the data in?

    What speed of network?

Try opening a table at the console and issue a replace command and see what happens.

Without complete information it's difficult to imagine everything.

I have created a textfields on a canvas section to enter/encode the records. Upon clicking the 'save' button, the system takes so long to save the record. Note that I used 'insert command' to insert the records into the dbf file.

Same problem when I access the record from the dbf file to display it on the textfields on the canvas section.

I can't use the console as what you said because it's an app center on a client PC. No console.

Let's say you have a drive mapped to where your database is located called Z:

    set exclusive off
    use z:\tablename

So you have one canvas section with no relationships and saving one record takes a long time? What about copying a file across the lan from your of to the server?

This sounds like a network configuration issue.

What operating system is running in the server and what on the client?

Yes there is no relationship. The server and the client PC has both windows 8 OS.

I tried to copy files as what you said and the speed is 11MB/s.

If it's a network issue then what would be a good practice for this?

    thanks for your idea.

If that's a 1Gbs LAN then your file copy is only 88Mbs which is pretty slow.

There could be many reasons for this so before you look at your application you need to sort this out first.

Make sure that you do not have conflicting ip addresses on the LAN .

Google "windows test lan speed" and make sure the connections are ok.

Rule #1 check the Ethernet cables and replace them to make sure
Rule #2 check your Ethernet switch
Rule #3 run performance monitor on the server to see if something is eating cpu, disk or network
Rule #4 make sure virus checkers aren't killing performance by temporarily disabling them

    hi again,

Problem again with database access. The app builder is installed in drive d while the app center is installed in drive c mapped in d:\lianja\cloudserver\tenants\public\. But every time I open the project in app center, it doesn't access the deployment directory d:\lianja\cloudserver\tenants\public\. What it accesses is the data being used by the app builder w\c is d:\lianja\data\

    thanks again.

Can you give complete details of the mappings, command line switches and any Lianja environment variables you have set?

    Thanks.
