View Full Version : Tip: How to use Lianja forum

This is how I use Lianja forum(s):

Following the forum activities

Have 3 shortcuts in my web browser and use them all:

1.what's new from yesterday: http://www.lianja.com/community/search.php?do=getdaily&contenttype=vBForum_Post (Today's Posts)
2.new posts (replies): http://www.lianja.com/community/search.php?do=getnew&contenttype=vBForum_Post (New Posts)
3.new threads open: http://www.lianja.com/community/activity.php (Activity Stream)

You will often get different outputs. E.g. Activity Stream shows only fresh new threads. You will not see any reply and conversation in old threads.
With this 3-parts net I try to catch all (or the most) activities. However some posts will stop or never showing.
Even with this 'net', sometimes I later find that a conversation passed by and I did not know about it, even I was on the forum at that time.
I think it is because of time zones.

Lianja team picked a known professional forum management software but (like our apps) it is not perfect and you will lose/miss some threads+posts occasionally.
I see this from unanswered questions. Mostly over weekends (beginning Fridays) and in summer.
It is not because no one cares about your question or can't answer or the community/team is rude - but no one saw it. Your question slipped.
Do not hesitate to add a new "wake up" post to it.

In theory you would be shown all posts after your last login to forum, but I am skeptic if it happen every time.
If you skip a few days, you will probably miss some posts (a thread consists of posts).

Searching the forum

The forum search, even "Advanced Search" is not so successful. As Hank suggested Google gives better result.
If I want to search forum only, I ask Google: Lianja community what-i-search.
If I want official Lianja pages, I ask: Lianjapedia what-i-search

Frustrated with not finding the right info when it is needed, I started collecting Lianja team stuff answers (and MVP+experienced members from recently).
I suggest to start your search from this index-page: http://www.lianja.com/community/showthread.php?2717-Answers
(it was a private knowledge base project and my ad hoc categories may look strange, but I do not care).
You will get good start for exploring. You can also try to find origin post regarding some item there, by googling: Lianja community copy-paste-first-few-words-from-text.
I copied/pasted it from posts as-is, just for that purpose.

What is for forum and what for a ticket

If you think something is a bug, do not hesitate to submit a ticket rather than start forum conversation.
Provide some little sample app using Southwind database which demonstrates the behavior.
Make the package (LPK) and upload there.
With your sample app you will skip a lot of time, many forum posts with sub-questions to clarify what is all about and a lot of frustration.
Even you can find your own mistake and learn something new.

If someone found other tips, let us know.
Somebody knows other possible PHP-arguments in address besides "getdaily", "getnew" in http://www.lianja.com/community/. . . php?do= ... ?
Or you have a question how to do something in posting? Possible topics: uploading screenshots, uploading sample apps in LPK format, getting rid of Smiley in posted code...

getting rid of Smiley in posted code...

:)

Go to "Go Advanced" to have the Code formatting option.

Good tips: I learned something.

For the most part, I search Google for stuff on the forums.
