[Answers] Instant Selection

I'm assuming you mean Instant Selection, not Instant Search - but let me know if I have misunderstood.
For birthdate not empty, the 'Value' you enter, when the field is a date, is enclosed in {} when used, so try this:

When you specify more than one column an AND is added automatically, e.g. this searches for lastname = 'callahan' and firstname = 'laura':

You can double-check the search criteria if you do a LIST INDEX on the table in the Console Workspace. This will also display any errors in the Error Window if there is a problem with the criteria you have specified:
